Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has charged National Youth service Corps members must be able to create positive impacts in all sectors of the economy to enable thestate and Nigeria witness great development. He gave the charge at the official closing ceremonyof the2019 BatchA’ orientation camp in Okada, Benin City.
Obaseki urged the Corps members to play complimentary role in nation building.
“The role of youths in the task ofnation building cannot be over- emphasized. NYSC has launchedyou into the mainstream of socio- economic development; it is vital to note that your complimentary role in nation-building is highly needed at this time when Nigeria is facedwith both political and economic challenges.
Your positiveimpact must be felt in all different sectors of the economy, especially within the host communities, in moving them fromtheir present situation to the next level,” the governor stated.
He asked them to apply knowledge acquired from their universities in helping transform the state.
“l enjoin you to impact knowledgeacquired from your various institutions of higher learningon the younger ones, and join hands with us in making the ‘heartbeat of the nation’,worthy of emulation. l urgeyou to go into the midst of our people, interact with themfreely and respect their traditions and cultures, wherever you may find yourself”
Governor Obaseki implored them to avoid unnecessary travels.
“As you move into the various communities of Edo state, you will find the rightenvironment to live and work, get yourselves occupied to avoid unnecessary journeys,” Obaseki’ said.
In his welcome address, the Edo State NYSC coordinator, Clement Adebayo, said corps members were fully engaged for the three-week period with various activities planned to achieve intended goals, noting that the NYSC members have exhibited high level of discipline,resilience, loyalty and commitment, which contributed to the positive results achieved in the progrmme and policy implementation.”
“As managers of the scheme, we are satisfied and confident that, these batchof corps members havebeen fully equipped to render very vital and rewardingservice at their respective places of primary assignment. Always remember that you have beentrained in leadership.You will do well to bring to bear thematurity and dexterity with which you tackle life challenges.
“Wherever you find yourselves, settledown fast and think of how best to positively influence andimprove the lives of members of your host> communities,” Adebayo advised.
