As the 2023 general election draws near, amidst the worsening situation in the country, underlined by a glaring high rate of hunger, unemployment, insecurity and complete collapse of the nation’s economy, a political analyst and businessman Mr. Uche Tobin has stressed the need for Nigerians to rise up and get it right using the ballot.
In his words: “It’s high time we rose up. We cannot continue to be like this. Our children will graduate from school, no jobs, few people (politicians) are holding this country to ransom against hundreds, while millions are left in abject poverty. Politicians who have not worked anywhere before, attaining power become billionaires overnight. We gave them job, we voted them in and they are using our money to suppress us and yet Nigerians are singing praises, instead of asking pertinent questions; how they amass the wealth. On this note, I say to Nigerians, get their permanent voters card (PVC) and vote a candidate that will salvage and rescue this country and anything that will happen, should happen. If the government will kill everyone, they should come and kill everybody. For how long shall we continue like this? The suffering in the country is at its peak, a country that a cube of sugar, now cost N10, a sachet of pure water is N20 and we are smiling about it.” A visibly agitated Tobin queried.
He took a swipe at the Niger Delta people whose resources such as oil and gas are being harvested in their domain wondering why the region has no say in the polity. “Niger Delta people don’t have a say, we have oil and gas somebody far from north is enjoying from the wealth and the aborigines are plunged into complete poverty that destroys their environment and our politicians from the region will join forces with their counterpart from other zones to applaud them.”
He stridently called on Nigerians, especially the youths, to rise and change the misfortune, and if our current leaders want a one and united Nigeria, 2023 will decide and if they don’t want, then everybody should go their separate way. If the country will be one and united, then our votes should count and the right leaders should emerge from a free, fair, transparent and credible process.
