To complement the efforts of the federal, state and local governments in controlling Covid-19 pandemic, an NGO, Edo Dynasty United Worldwide (EDUW) has campaigned through some major streets and the Ring Road in Benin city, to sensitize people in the state on the econd wave of COVID-19 virus.
Stating why the group embarked on the mission, one of the facilitators, Comrade Bevy Efe said they were doing it to create awareness about Covid-19 pandemic. She said apart from the awareness, there are other issues that the organization wants the state government to pay attention to.
Comrade Efe lamented over the deplorable, dilapidated and horrible state of the Edo State healthcare system and called on the state government to address the bad situation.
“Today, we are here on behalf of our president, Comrade Brown Osewingie, and other committed members, to compliment the state government efforts to sensitize the people of Edo about the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
“This rally is to create awareness on Covid-19. We believe Covid-19 protocols should be strictly adhered to, if not eradicated.
“We would be sharing face masks, sanitizers and food to those that are hungry. This body is also using this medium to call on the state government to pay proper attention to the healthcare facilities that are deteriorating. Our healthcare amenities are outdated. We want the government to address it. And to thank the Edo people for complying gradually. These are our core values and message,” said Bevy.
One of the female members, Princess Jessica Iguodala said beyond calling on people to adhe to all the Covid-19 protocols, such as wearing of face masks and hand sanitizing, the state government should offer solutions to the issue of insecurity, education and other infrastructural decays in the state.
Princess Iguodala said: “Edo Dynasty United Worldwide is one people. We want to use this medium to tell the governor to assist in solving the plights of insecurity, hostility, education and other vices in the state.
“We want the governor to improve on those things mentioned. We are creating awareness for Covid-19. COVID-19 is real. We want to tell the people to practice social distancing and to teach them how to maintain social distance and washing of hands in public.”
Comrade Osagbovo Emovon, said the reason why they are here is to support Edo state government to inform the people about COVID-19 pandemic.
Comrade Emovon said:” We are here to enlighten the Edo people to use their face masks and sanitizers in public. We will give them face masks. We also have other issues like insecurity, poor infrastructures, bad roads and a lot more that we want the government to solve.’”
