In a concerted effort to promote peace and tranquilly within the Kula Kingdom, the chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Rowland Sekibo, and the member representing Akuku-Toru Constituency II in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Lolo Isaiah Opuende, convened a significant peace meeting which purpose was to address a longstanding chieftaincy dispute within the kingdom.
A release to that effect signed by Abraham Ebini, SA on Media and Publicity to the Hon Opunede and made available to National Point states, “The historic gathering, which took place at the official residence of Hon. Lolo Isaiah Opuende in the Rivers House of Assembly quarters, Port Harcourt, aimed to resolve the conflict without resorting to litigation. The two political leaders successfully brokered a harmonious agreement amongst the factions of chiefs, resulting in a win-win outcome where neither party emerged victorious nor vanquished”.
Distinguished personalities in attendance included Chief Kalaogbolo Nath Obu-Sukubo, the Chief of Boro, Chief. Gibson Tyger Opusingi, Chief Kalagbolo Nath Boro, Chief Sibia Aaron Offo, Chief Godin Opueze, Chief Esene Dearson Opuari, Chief Ibinabo Kiliya, Chief W. Gaga, Chief Tuboalabo Fiala, Chief Otomba Yellow Tamunosaki, Chief T. A. O. Slink, Chief. Oye Otto, Chief Harrison Kalamafiya, Chief Siemiema Bone, Chief (Dr) Ayanate Kio Dia, Chief (Barr) Ajagidi Asawari, Chief Asiyekuromaa Ebini, Chief Asaye Agiri, Chief Isimama Sukubo, Chief Aleki, Chief Iboroma Brown, Chief Nsobiari Kalaoriye, Chief Atiye Amabibi, Chief (Elect), Prince Jene Eleki, and some other chiefs who played a significant role in the resolution process.
According to the release, Hon. Opuende emphasised the importance of fostering lasting unity within the region as a catalyst for attracting essential development and affirmed his unwavering commitment to utilising all legal means necessary to achieve peace in the area. He further stated that aside from his primary responsibility of representing his constituents through favourable legislation, promoting and nurturing peace remained an integral part of his agenda. He underscored that without peace, any efforts geared towards advancing development would prove futile.
With the successful resolution of the chieftaincy dispute, it is anticipated that Kula Kingdom will experience a renewed sense of harmony and stability, thus laying the foundation for progress and prosperity within the region.
