To help curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic which has destabilized the world, the chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Hon. Sylvester Okoro, has embarked on a community to community sensitization awareness campaign to educate the people on the cause of the virus.
A task force led by the council head visited motor/motorcycle parks, markets, health centers, palaces and other public places to enlighten the rural dwellers on the needs to take a precautionary measure to avoid contacting the spreading the virus.
The council boss, who made the awareness programme statements available through his chief press secretary, Roy Osariemwen, said some relief items were distributed to the people.
Talking to traders and others at Urhehue Central Market in Ugu Ward, Hon. Okoro gave an insights on the best way to avoid contacting the dreaded disease, which he said, washing of hands with soap, wearing of face mask/hand gloves, use of hands sanitizers, and distancing from crowds and handshakes.
He warned that the message should be strictly adhere to, adding that, the virus is real hence the need not to be careless over the instructions. He advised that any case detected should be immediately reported to the health center closer to them for onwards movement to Coronavirus designated isolated centers.
Primary Health Centers coordinator in Orhionmwon Local Government Council, Dr. Edward Iseh advised indigenes of Orhionmwon not to panic as the disease is not a death sentence if precautionary measures outlined are carefully followed.
Dr. Iseh listed some of the virus symptoms as fever, dry cough, shortness of breath/breathing difficulties and vigorous sneezing. He advised anyone experiencing such signs to visit the hospital.
Also, some infection preventive items were distributed by the council to health centers, churches, palaces, parks and other public places including hand washing drums, soaps, hand sanitizers, facemasks and gloves.
