Ogwashi-Uku Community, headquarters of Aniocha South Local Government Area in Delta State have congratulated one of her sons, Dr Maxwell Azuka Meju for bagging the Reginald Fessenden Award, the highest global award in Exploration Geophysics.
Dr Meju is a principal researcher at PETRONAS Centerfor Advanced Imaging, Malaysia and was recently announced recipient of the2018/2019 awardee in recognition of his innovation and contribution to the extractive industry and academia.
A message congratulating Meju who began his academic pursuit from Government Primary School, Ogwashi-Uku signed by the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, HRH Prof Chukwuka Okonjoon behalf of the Obi-in-Council, stated that Dr Meju has brought honour to Ogwashi-Uku and Nigeria through the international award, in “Recognition of your contribution and development of the current cross-gradient joint inversion method, an invention that is widely used in the academia and various industries”.
In a related development, members of Idumu Ubulu-Aliko Family in Azungwu quarter of Ogwashi-Uku have also felicitated with their son and brother for bringing pride to the village.
In their felicitation letter jointly signed by Mr.Frederick Chiokeanna Mgbanwa, president ,and Mr. JohnMaduaburochukwu Awanyai, general secretary, the family said the honour did notcome as a surprise.
“This honour may have come to others as a surprise.However, judging by your past precedents and sterling records right from yourprimary school days and up to your time as a student of the University of Beninto the beginning and the rise of your career, this is as expected from us yourkinsmen. This award is just an extra feather added to your already laden cap,as we very well know that you are no stranger to receiving laudable awards inyour field. Therefore, we have no doubtin our heart that you are very deserving of the auspicious recognition”.
They said Meju’s dedication and passion paved way for the recognition. “Your wholesome passion, dedication and unwavering commitment to your profession has contributed in no small measure to the success you have achieved today. As the popular adage says, ‘A golden fish has no hiding place’ and indeed, you are a shining light that cannot be dimmed. We the people of Idumu Ubulu-Alikocan see your light and indeed we feel very proud and honoured to have someone like you as a worthy son”.
The kinsmen said the awardee’s life and achievementsdepict succinctly, the truism that the diligent will stand before kings andthanked him for, “bringing honour to us and always being a worthy ambassador ofIdumuUbulu-Aliko”.
Dr Maxwell Meju an ex-student of St Anthony’sCollege, Ubulu-Uku and federal Government College, Warri, was the bestgraduating student of the University of Benin in 1981 and pioneer first classGeology graduate of theinstitution. He was a federal post-graduatestudent at the prestigious Imperial College, London where he obtained amaster’s degree in Geo-physics (1984) before proceeding to the University ofEdinburgh, Scotland for a PhD.in Geo-physics with specialization inElectro-Magnetism.
He lectured in Leicester University and Lancaster Universitybefore heading to PETRONAS, Malaysia where he is currently leading all themulti-physics innovations and practices.
