Wife of the Edo State governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has commended the creative and ingenuity of Nigerian children, saying they represent the hope for a bright future of the country. She gave the commendation at an event put together by God’s Child Foundation Ministries and Forum of Children Ministers in Edo State in conjunction with BMI’s Children Church, to mark this year’s children’s day celebration in Benin City. Betsy Obaseki, who was represented by Pastor Charity Anakun, said the wish of every Nigerian parent is to see his children succeed and surpass his progress. Urging the children to follow that…
The Nigeria Police, like the defunct Nigerian Airways, share a symbol-the elephant. A flying elephant? That’s unheard of in world mythology. Elephants don’t fly. But never mind; that’s the symbol of the long dead, Airways. The Nigeria Police, though historically older, has for some reason refused to die despite a protracted illness. A sizeable amount of literature has been written on the Police organization, from that landmark work by Tekena Tamuno, (A history of Nigeria Police) ,to a relatively new one by Dr Mike Chukwuma, clamouring for reform. Chukwumah, unlike Tamuno, was a cop who’s seen so much from the…
The political parties have finally concluded the primary elections to nominate candidates that will be their standard bearers in the 2023 general elections. Except for a few cases of violence and confusion, most of the primaries were held peacefully. The security situation and sectional tensions in the country, which many feared would disrupt the smooth conduct of the primaries did not interfere with the processes across the country. This peaceful turnout of the primaries is commendable as it is an improvement over the past election, seasons when violence, killings, confusion and litigations marred the primaries. Sadly, the primaries were highly…

Okowa’s condolence message was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, wherein he expressed shock and sadness over the heinous killing of innocent worshippers at the Owo Church. “We received the news of the gruesome attack on St. Francis Catholic…

A 19 year old girl and her family in Port Harcourt are in a dilemma over how to handle her recently discovered weeks old pregnancy. The girl (whose identity is being protected) is a 200 level student of the University of Port Harcourt. She got pregnant for a young man in her area. She has been home idle for months, following the closure of her University and declaration of a strike by University lecturers nationwide, on February 27, 2022, under the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Her family has reportedly made arrangements to send the girl to Ghana to…
On assuming office in 2007 as Delta State governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan flagged off the dualization of the Ughelli/Asaba road. The jubilation that greeted the government decision expressed the yearning of the people, who had been made to go through excruciating pains plying the road which had been left to decay over the years, thereby becoming a sort of nightmare to motorists. Besides motorists, the communities along the road were happy believing that the 149-kilometre road would speed up development in their areas Dr Uduaghan, at that time, harped on the economic importance of the road when completed, saying linking…
Fatigue was etched in every slow gesture she made. It was there in the nearly imperceptible forward and backward sway of her upper torso as she worked the paddle. It echoed in the slow swooshing sound of paddle dipping in and out of water. Tiredness ringed bleary eyes and the sad sag of her sun burnt face staring straight ahead. When the canoe breasted the rickety wooden pier in front of her wooden hut in Tsekelewu, Madam Betty Tongaji lifted the green plastic basin onto the pier. “This is all I got since this morning”, she stated sadly. At the…
