The chief judge of Edo State, Justice Frances Esohe Ikponmwen has admonished the newly elected legal officers of the Institute of Charactered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), to be fair, diligent and hardworking in the discharge of their service.
Justice Ikponmwen, who was represented by Hon. Justice Esther Edigin, said the Benin branch is ready to take up with a lot of activities that will enhance the group, and urged the elected officers to have the fear of God in carrying out their tasks.
She gave the advice at the inauguration and the swearing- in of the new ICMC legal officers in Benin City, thanked them for offering themselves for service.
In her speech, Mrs. Margaret Nwagbo, first deputy president ICMC, charged the officers to work with the national leadership of the body to deliver and fulfill their functions. She advised them to carve out a nitch for themselves in piloting the affairs of the Benin branch.
Mrs. Nwagbo said the body is also saddle with the responsibility to training, organize seminars and symposia for members to help them update their knowledge about modern trends in the profession.
She said ICMC has 18 branches all over the country and the most prestigious institute in the whole world. Executive officers of the body are: Mary Itsueli, chairperson, Pascal Ugbomhe, vice-chairman, Mr. Uyi, secretary among others.
In an interview with the new vice-chairman after the event, Pascal Ugbomhe , said the aims of the group is to mediate with the courts on how to adjudicate some disputes to ensure speedy resolution.
Pascal Ugbomhe asserted that the essence is to bring peace to dispute cases. He said this is the first time they are having the body in Edo state, and thanked God for bringing it into reality.
He stressed that their duty is to drive the practice in Edo State, adding that, ICMC is a body that helps to resolve disputes, to bring about speedy resolution to cases, like promoting alternative dispute resolution, ARD cases for the sake of fairness and justice.
Ugbomhe said, the body will help train members on needed skills to make them function. He explained that the body deals with everything concerning quick mediation of cases of dispute speedy resolution to ensure justice and peace.
In her acceptance remark, chairperson of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Edo State branch, Mary Itsueli promised they will do their best and thanked everybody for the honour bestowed on them.
Itsueli appealed to all s to work with them to promote ADR to ensure peace and justice. Their tenure will last for four years.
