Eleme Local Government Council Administrator, Dr Gloria Obo Dibiah has lamented the state of public primary and junior secondary schools in the area.
According to a press statement issued by Felix Ogbuji, the Press Secretary to the administrator, Dibiah vowed to prioritize the rehabilitation of all the primary and junior secondary schools in the area.
The administrator who visited all the primary and junior secondary schools in the local government area to make an on-the-spot assessment of the state of the schools said most of the schools were worse off now than they were in the 1970s when she was in primary school.
She promised to collaborate with other stakeholders in education to better the environments around schools in Eleme in record time.
The teachers who received her, expressed their joy over the administrator’s visit, noting that it was the first time anyone in the position of authority had visited the schools this way.
Some of the schools she visited were Community Junior Secondary School, Agbonchia, State Primary School 1& 2, Agbonchia, State Primary School & Community Junior Secondary School, Aleto, State Primary School 1 & 2, Akpajo, Government Girls Secondary School, Alesa, State Primary School 1 & 2 and Comprehensive High School (UBE), Alesa.
Others include State Primary School and Government Girls Secondary School, Alode, Community Junior Secondary School, Onne, Community Junior Secondary School, Eteo, Community Junior Secondary School, Ebubu and State Primary School 1 & 2, Ogale.
She concluded the tour at Ogale State School 1 and 2 where she had a meeting with all the head teachers and principals of the primary and junior secondary schools in the area.
Particularly touching was the situation at State School, Alesa, where the pupils were found sitting on the bare floor.
