The family of Chief Michael Okumakube of Ovu Community, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, has cried out and petitioned the Delta State Police commissioner, assistant inspector general of Police, IGP Zone 5, Benin City, Edo State over an alleged delay in arresting the killer of their son.
Suspected assassins had on March 19, 2023, between Ughelli and Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state, murdered in cold blood, Mr. Solomon Okumakube, after having ordered him to transfer all the money from his account into the suspected assassins account.
It was reliably gathered that the assassins before killing late Solomon Okumakube and other occupants in the commercial vehicle, had ordered the transfer of all the money in late Okumakube’s account, which was allegedly traced to a private account in one of the new generation banks, yet no arrest has been made.
The Okumakube family who spoke through Mr. Philip Okumakube, said the incident was earlier reported at Agbarho Divisional Police Station and was later transferred to the office of the assistant commissioner of Police, Ughelli Area Command, adding that till date nothing has been heard of any suspect being arrested by the security agents.
The family is calling on the Delta State Police commissioner, assistant inspector general of Police, Zone 5, Benin City, Edo State, the inspector general of Police and the Police Service Commission, to come into the matter so as to uncover the killer of their son.
The family said the matter has been lingering since March 19 when the matter was reported to the police and information on the transfer of money made by their late son to the suspected assassins before he was shot dead, adding that with the transfer made to the new generation bank, it was supposed to be easy for the police to do their findings and bring the culprit to book.
Contacted, the public relations officer of the Command, DSP Bright Edafe who confirmed the murder of the deceased, urged the family to avail police operatives with useful information that could aid investigation.
“I was made to understand that the said family came only once to the station, and never showed up till now.
“So if they have any information relating to the bank account, they should go to Agbarho Police Station so that operatives can work with it to track the suspects,” Edafe said.
