…SOLAD directs people to move upland
The consistent rainfall in Port Harcourt and environs has led to serious flooding that has been causing residents anxious moments.
In Oyigbo urban, residents are trapped in the floods while vehicles cannot move around. Areas like Rumuagholu, Rukpoku, Eleme and Elimgbu were also affected.
Other affected areas were Odili Road, Eliozu, East West Road and many other places.
Victor Ezuma, who operates the Oyigbo TV said on his Facebook handle that people are moving out of their homes as their homes are besieged by the flood.
“Politicians don’t want to fix internal roads because of me. They feel I will be too happy if they do.

“They want to force me to permanently relocate to Port Harcourt. I think it’s time to move into Port Harcourt temporarily because the bad condition of the road in Oyigbo LGA is affecting me seriously. Like today, it’s been raining since morning,” he said.
He said virtually all the roads in the area are not motorable as they are in need of rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, the government of Rivers State has asked people in flood prone areas to move to higher lands.
In a press statement on Tuesday by the Special Assistant to the Administrator on Media, Mr. Hector Igbikiowubo, the government asked residents in flooded areas to cooperate with emergency officials.

The government banned illegal land reclamation and dredging activities As they degrade the environment and worsens flood situations.
The statement said the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is deploying teams to Rivers State and other at-risk regions to sensitize residents on flood preparedness and mitigation measures.
“Rivers State Government fully supports this initiative and urges all residents, especially those in flood-prone communities, to take necessary precautions to safeguard lives and property,” it said.
