Inhabitants of Akinima in Ahoada West Local Government Area and Joinkrama 1, 2 & 3 as well as adjoining communities are on the verge of being cut off from the world, no thanks to a deadly gully erosion which has engulfed the only motorable link road there. The gash is immediately after Akinima, the LGA council headquarters and Joinkrama 2.
Evangelist Hope Ikiriko, from Ogbologbolo who has also served as a state legislator, is the Chairman of the local government.
The road had been in bad shape even before the 2022 flood which deepened the erosion.
Aside this, the people are still drenched in the aftermath of the deadly flood, which have left some dead, many sick, homeless and jobless, among other challenges.
A visit there showed most of their houses still unoccupied, because the houses had soaked enough water during the flood, which has left it unhabitable. One could still see the water level marks on the walls of the buildings.
Unoccupied, the buildings have become opportunities for herdsmen and their herd to take over, creating further problems for the displaced natives.
