The Igbinedion University, Okada, has graduated a total of 736 students from the institution. Twenty students bagged First Class honours, 241 came out with Second Class Upper and 11,Third Class honours.
The university’s vice-chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ikechwuku Ezemonye revealed it at a pre-press conference to mark the 16th convocation of the school in Benin city, Edo state. He lamented the neglect of private universities by the federal government by not supporting them with TETFUND.
Prof Ezemonye said graduates from private universities also contribute much more to the advancement and development of the nation than graduates from public universities.
He disclosed that IUO has signed a partnership with Tony Elumelu Foundation to enable the university train and equip the students on entrepreneurship. According to him, the school has invested in research and development to make the institution come out with new innovative ideas.
The new VC stressed that his 21- point road-map, which, he structured into a five- point agenda when actualized, will enhance robust education in the university, adding, that the school has improved greatly in the area of ICT for maximum delivery of quality and sound education to students and lecturers.
Ezemonye said a former president of Ghana, John Mahama Dramani, Oba of Iwo Land, Oba Rasheed Adewale Akanbi and Edo State PDP chairman, Chief Dan Orbih would be honored at the event.
In a vote of thanks, the registrar of IOU, Dr. Edwin Okoro commended the vision bearer of the institution, Chief Gaberial Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom for setting-up the higher institution which has transformed and impacted the lives of everybody who has benefited from the university.
Dr. Okoro said Chief Esama Igbinedion is the reason why they all gathered to brainstorm on the way forward of the institution.
