Former President Goodluck Jonathan has lauded former Niger Delta agitator, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for his continued role in maintaining peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.
Jonathan, who received Tompolo on a courtesy visit, described him as a patriotic leader whose contributions to the unity and security of the region remain invaluable.
“Since I left office, we have not met. Tompolo is one young man who played a key role in ensuring the unity of our people,” Jonathan said. “He has been handling security issues in the Niger Delta, and I recall that as Vice President, I once visited his camp in the course of our efforts to restore peace to the region.”
The former President explained that their recent meeting was to discuss emerging concerns in the region and ensure continued collaboration toward sustaining peace and stability.
“There have been issues people have raised, and I felt it was necessary to reach out to him so that we can have conversations along those lines and ensure that we are all carried along in maintaining peace in the Niger Delta,” he stated.
Jonathan expressed deep appreciation for Tompolo’s commitment to regional security and his contributions to protecting the nation’s oil assets.
“I appreciate his visit. He is someone we hold in high regard because he has contributed significantly to the peace in the Niger Delta and the security of the oil industry,” Jonathan added.
