Lawmakers, socio-political groups and youths of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality, have recently staged a massive solidarity-walk in Port Harcourt, in support of the Rivers State governor, Siminilayi Fubara.
The groups which included members of House of Representatives, Ijaw National Congress, INC, and other youth groups, said their solidarity walk was aimed at bringing to an end godfatherism in the state politics.
The group for many hours, obstructed human and vehicular movements along Azikiwe, Moscow and adjourning roads, chanting songs in expression of their solidarity support for the governor Fubara administration.
According to the leaders of the groups, the solidarity-walk was their own way of showing disapproval of any move to remove Governor Fubara from office through any means.
The member representing Opobo Nkoro/Andoni Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Awajinombek Abiante said there is no justification for attempting to impeach the governor, who according to him, has been doing his best since inception.
Also speaking, the member representing Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru Federal Constituency in the green chamber, Hon. Boma Goodhead said the solidarity-walk was not only for a more peaceful and politically stable Rivers State, but to restate the supremacy of the people over one individual.
President of Ijaw National Congress, INC, Prof. Benjamin Okaba while addressing the people during the solidarity-walk, said the Ijaw nation will not accept any attempt to truncate the tenure of Siminilayi Fubara as governor of Rivers State, and urged President Bola Tinubu to call the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to order.
Also, a renowned Ijaw activist, Mr. Somina Wokoma condemned what he described as undue interference from the immediate past governor of the state. Wokoma maintained that residents of the state are in one accord and that their support for the governor is in the interest of justice and democracy.
Recall that the political crisis in Rivers State has led to attempt by 27 states lawmakers to impeach the governor, demolition of the Rivers State Assembly Complex, and resignation of at least eight commissioners loyal to Nyesom Wike, from the current administration.
