The Niger Delta Development Commission has agreed to issue out about 200 Tablets with a U-lesson Educational application embedded in them to secondary schools in Bayelsa State.
Already the commission has given out six of the Tablets to representatives of different secondary schools that were present at the launch of the application.
Speaking during the launch of the U-lesson Educational Tablets in Yenagoa, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku the managing director of NDDC represented by George Uzonwanne, Director Education, Health and social services, NDDC stated that NDDC in the pursuit of her interventionist mandate in the region, has continued to support the NDDC mandated states in their drive to address education concerns and the interest of the people of the region.
He said, “The distribution of these education tools is a testament to the Hope Agenda championed by the President. We are dedicated to fostering educational initiatives that promote literacy numeracy and lifelong learning, ensuring that the Niger Delta youth can compete on an equal footing with their peers globally.
“These tablets are more than just furniture. They represent our commitment to creating a conducive learning environment that fosters academic excellence, creativity and innovation.
“With these U-lesson tablets, our children will have comfort and dedicated space to learn, study and grow. They will be able to engage in collaborative learning, share ideas and build meaningful relationships with their peers.
“As we distribute this educational software, services and tablets, we are taking a significant step towards achieving the sustainable development goals particularly Goal 4 which seems to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”
He said the tablets will inspire students to dream big, work hard and achieve their goals adding.
He assured that NDDC has employed the services of a consultant to train teachers in the use of the U-lesson tablets for effective use across the nine mandate states.
Sim Shagaya, the initiator of the project said that it represents the largest investment in education technology.
He said, “It took a lot of vision and effort to get us to this place. We started U-lesson in 2018 with a very simple vision to recombined animation, curriculum, technology, content and create something that nobody has ever seen.
“But we discovered that it’s only the children of the wealthy ones that were buying it and why we were trying to figure out what to do in other to spread it, the NDDC came in and showed us the way forward.”
