June 24, 2022 will remain for members of Nkwot Community in Akwa Ibom State, a day to remember. That day, their illustrious son Nnimmo Bassey drew friends and associates from outside and within to the community. He also brought government officials including the permanent secretary Asuquo Seno,Esq, SA to Akwa Ibom State governor on Education Monitoring, chairman Senior Secondary School Management AKwa Ibom State and other government officials to witness the commissioning of a library he built for students there.
Asuquo Seno, Perm Secretary, appreciated Rev Nnimmo Bassey for the Resource Centre project and committed to assign a professional librarian there to manage the center
The SA appreciated Arc Nnimmo Bassey for the project and appealed to other members of the Nkwot Community to take a cue and carry out activities that will impact on the community
Chairman of the occasion used the opportunity to draw attention to the deplorable state of the access road to the community and urged the state government to remember the community and plan to award a contract for the reconstruction of the road.
Rev Fr Rt Hon Dr. Ekaette Ebong who commissioned the resource center, appreciated Mrs Evelyn Bassey for supporting her husband, Nnimmo Bassey in undertaking impactful projects in Ikot Nseyen, Ikono LGA, Akwa Ibom state and all over the world.
“What a great thing, what a joy that we still have people putting back into the community! We are excited to be here, myself together with the perm secretary, all the directors in the State Secondary School Education Board plus the SA to the governor on Education Monitoring.
“Arc Nnimmo Bassey has seen how it is in other places and has decided to do the same thing in his village also. This is commendable, Hon. Ekaette Ebong said.
He urged proper care of the project by the people as community members showed excitement over the project they agree will boost education in the area.
Nnimmo Bassey is a global environmental activist, poet and architect.
