The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr. Dennis Otuaro, has called on the people of the Niger Delta region to rally behind the resolution by South-South All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.
Dr. Otuaro made this appeal in Abuja while reacting to the recent decision by regional APC governors and leaders. Speaking to journalists, Otuaro described the South-South APC leaders’ action as the “right way to reward a sincere and committed leader who has shown in practical terms his love for the region and the people.”
APC leaders and members from Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states had on July 5 after a meeting in Benin City, unanimously endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027.
Otuaro asserted that President Tinubu has “proved beyond doubt his love and dedication to the affairs and development of the Niger Delta.”
He cited various initiatives and policies under the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which he claims have benefited the South-South. These include strategic appointments, the initiation of major projects, the establishment of new agencies, and adequate funding for existing ones.
Specifically, Otuaro highlighted the President’s role in signing into law bills establishing the Maritime University in Okerenkoroko and the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoniland.
He also mentioned intensified support for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) itself, alongside the attention given to the Lagos-Calabar Expressway project, as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to the region’s development.
“President Bola Tinubu has not hidden his intention to develop the South South and the Niger Delta,” Otuaro emphasized, urging the region’s inhabitants to “embrace the informed position of the APC leaders to sustain the region in the position to attract more development through a listening leader.”
Furthermore, Otuaro cautioned the youth of the region and delegates of the Presidential Amnesty Programme against allowing themselves to be manipulated by politicians with intentions detrimental to the Niger Delta’s interests.
“I know that many will soon besiege our streets with their deceptive antics out of desperation for votes,” he warned, urging a discerning approach to political appeals.
He concluded by affirming that the President’s actions are clear for all to see, stating, “What this President deserves is our continued support and contribution to his reelection in 2027.”
