The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of a suspect linked to a recent armed robbery and car snatching incident in the Choba area of Port Harcourt.
The incident, which occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on October 15, 2025, and was captured in a viral CCTV video circulating on social media, involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon car at gunpoint.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, operatives of the Command apprehended one of the suspects, identified as 42-year-old Iruo Young, at his hideout in the Ikoku area of Port Harcourt.

Iringe-Koko said the arrest followed a swift intelligence-led operation supported by technical surveillance, which enabled officers to track down the suspect shortly after the video went viral.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down his accomplices, recover the stolen vehicle, and retrieve the firearms used in the attack.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the operatives for their professionalism and rapid response that led to the arrest. He also thanked members of the public for providing useful information that aided the operation.
Adepoju assured residents that the Command would continue to adopt proactive measures to curb crime, warning that Rivers State would not serve as a safe haven for criminals.
He reiterated the Police’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant and continue to share credible information with law enforcement authorities.
