Operatives of the Operation Puff Adder Unit of Bayelsa Police Command led by CSP Chris Nwaogbo have rescued two staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) kidnapped on last Friday on a river as they travelled to Ayakoro community, in Ogbia Local Government Area.
Ayakoro is the hometown of the NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku. The rescued staff are Akari Loveday, the Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to the NDDC MD, and his brother, Emmanuel Nathan Ogbuku.
Police sources said the rescue was done with pressure mounted by the tactical team of the Operation Puff Adder, the Drone team of the State Commissioner of Police and a private drone company, the Ability security services and the collaboration of the Nigerian Navy-NNS Soroh that mobilized their gunboats for the operation.
The police rescue team revealed that the chase took them through the creeks and rivers of Ayakoro, where the abduction took place and through the Onuebum-Eboi and Otuogidi forests, where the Ewoi community vigilance group provided vital assistance.
The victims were abandoned at the Ayama burial ground after hot exchange of gunfire. The men of the Anti-Kidnapping squad also joined the Operation puff Adder in the rescue efforts.
The successful rescue of the victims threw the people of Ayakoro into celebration mood.
