The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral social media video alleging that Fulani herdsmen attacked parts of the state and were repelled by Ijaw youths.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command described the claims as “entirely false, misleading, and designed to incite panic.”
According to the statement, there have been no incidents or reports of herdsmen attacks in any part of Rivers State. The Command said the video was a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to disrupt the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the state.
“We urge the public to disregard this misinformation and exercise restraint in sharing unverified content that could spark unnecessary tension or damage the State’s reputation,” the statement read.
The police assured residents that security across the state remains robust, with operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads actively deployed. It added that the Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju, is committed to transparent and accountable policing.
The Command encouraged the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to verify information through official channels before sharing it.
The statement was signed by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Police Command.
