Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has promised to revive the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach in Rivers State, which has been abandoned for several decades.
A visit by Governor Fubara, round the facility on Tuesday, offered a renewed assurance to get the facility, which provided relaxation and fun spots for residents and visitors to Port Harcourt, back to live again.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the beach, the governor said, “We are here to inspect this place that is usually called Port Harcourt Tourist Beach, and for so many years has been abandoned and not put to good use.
“So, part of our programme for the Rivers people and to bring back Rivers State to what it used to be before, is to make sure that we revive the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach.
“As a matter of fact, what I came to do this afternoon is to inspect the second part of the land, which we just acquired recently to expand the space.
“And we also have an investor who is willing and has the capacity to re-establish this place into a modern tourist center.
“So, I am really happy that our people are already excited that the once forgotten Port Harcourt Tourist Beach will come back to life.
“But, let me tell you our able youths. We need your support. Also encourage the contractor. Don’t sabotage him when he comes. On our part, we will do our best to make sure life gets better.”
Governor Fubara was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Israel Ngbuelo, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ishmael Tomonialadieokuma and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Land, Alozie Nwala.
