…Commiserate with President Tinubu, Aisha Buhari on passing of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari
Rivers Women Unite for SIM has reiterated its steadfast commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State while urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the immediate reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the full restoration of democratic structures in the state.
This renewed appeal was made during the group’s weekly programme review held in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
In a press release signed by Comrade Glory Sunday, the Media Officer of the women group, the women decried the prolonged state of emergency in the state, describing the situation as a “democratic vacuum” that has hindered development, grassroots inclusion, and participatory governance.
“While we commend the various leaders and stakeholders whose efforts have contributed to restoring peace in Rivers State, it is now time for the federal government to act decisively,” the group stated. “We call on President Tinubu, who we regard as a father to all Nigerians, including women and youths, to lift the emergency rule and reinstate the democratically elected governor.”
According to the group, many people-centered programmes that empowered women, youths, and communities have been suspended under the emergency rule. They emphasized that a return to constitutional governance is essential for the resumption of grassroots development and inclusive progress.
The group also commended peace-loving Nigerians and federal authorities for their efforts in maintaining calm across the state, urging all parties to expedite actions toward restoring full democratic order.
In a related development, Rivers Women Unite for SIM extended heartfelt condolences to President Bola Tinubu and the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away at the age of 82.
They also offered their sympathies to former First Lady Aisha Buhari, the children, and other family members, praying for God’s comfort and the peaceful repose of the former leader’s soul.
