Commuters within Delta State have been implored to exercise patience as government is working hard to ensure that the suffering being experienced as a result of collapse of some roads is alleviated.
The state commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu and his Works counterpart, Chief James Augoye made the plea while inspecting rehabilitation works going on at federal roads along Benin/Sapele/Warri and the Benin/Asaba/Onitsha Bridge Head.
Aniagwu said the state government was aware of the trauma being experienced by those plying the roads and working day and night to ensure the palliative measures being put in place eased the challenges faced by road users.
He noted that work had commenced at the deplorable Okuovo axis of the Benin/Sapele/Warri Federal Road, while that of Head Bridge in Asaba was being given the desired attention.
On his part, the commissioner for Works stated that as a responsive government, Delta State government cannot fold its hands and watch the nightmare commuters undergo along some badly damaged portions of federal roads in the state.
Chief Augoye stated that contractors working on the roads had been challenged to expedite action, noting that the nature of the terrain was a major challenge on the Benin/Sapele/Warri federal road.
He expressed hope that before the week runs out the roads would be made passable thereby easing the plight of users.
Some road users had earlier complained that they have been sleeping on the road for days following the total collapse of the portions on the two sides of the road.
