The Rivers State chief judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, has decried the low quality of houses built and donated to the judiciary by past administrations.
The CJ, said this last week at the opening of the 2024/25 legal year mock court session held at the Ceremonial Court in the Port Harcourt High Court Complex.
Justice Amadi, who said his plea is coming on the heels of defects noticed from such buildings at handovers and subsequent use.
While reeling out his achievements and challenges, he appealed to the governor of Rivers State to involve the state judiciary while constructing offices for its officers.
The CJ further appealed that the inclusion should be from the building stage to the fittings stage.
He highlighted that most of the buildings require repairs, such as block A, built immediately after the Nigerian civil war while other buildings/blocks, such as C D, etc., are in need of urgent and major repairs.
Block B, could be noted to have undergone some repairs. Blocks C, D, E, and the Magistrate Court Complex at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, were all built and handed over by previous state administrations.
The chief judge also pleaded for more staff for the eight newly appointed judges, among others.
He did not fail to reel out the state government’s feat, which included reinstating of members of the Bench who were earlier denied swearing-in and the reinstatement to their previous positions by the court.
He also lauded the judiciary for creating three new High Court Divisions namely, Emohua, Abua, and Bonny LGAs respectively.
