A Port Harcourt-based businesswoman who was abducted a week ago, has regained her freedom. But the incident has thrown the business district around Mile One area into apprehension.
However, the kidnapped woman regained her freedom after spending eight days in the custody of her abductors.
The incident, which occurred at Umuoji Street, Mile 1, Diobu, in Port Harcourt, sent residents and passers-by scampering for safety as the abductors shot sporadically into the air close to her shop as they came calling.
The shooting, National Point was told, caused pandemonium in the midst of which their target in an attempt to escape, ran into their hands when she tripped and fell, making her kidnap smooth.
The kidnappers, according to an eyewitness account, picked her up and bundled her into their waiting vehicle. One of the kidnappers was masked.
It was after a few minutes that one of her staff raised alarm screaming, “Them don carry Madam oh!” which made neighbours realize it was a case of kidnap and not the gang battle among cult groups that had resurfaced in that area of the state capital.
The woman’s business is domiciled on the ground floor of a dilapidated two -storey building which has been put up for sale about a year ago.
The business is widely believed to be a juice/beverage depot.
A week into her abduction, her wares were sighted being offloaded by labourers into two waiting lorries.
The businesswoman is now said to be currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
A similar incident had occurred in the same area last December. It was gathered that business owners around that vicinity, and adjoining streets such as Ugo and Sangana Streets now live in fear of possible attack.
They close shop early to avoid falling into the hands of the marauders. National Point gathered that some adjoining streets have already been attacked and operators there are also applying caution in their place of business.
