The recent judgment of the Supreme Court, which put to rest the political cases surrounding the crises of the defection of 27 members of Rivers State House of Assembly and the tussle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the political faction of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has continued to generate reactions.
In an interview with National Point Newspaper in Port Harcourt, a prominent Niger Delta activist and the Shepherd of Citizens Of Kingdoms And City States (COKACS), Comrade Kalada Jene, said that the judgment was capable causing a revolution.
“The Supreme Court represents the highest pillar of justice in Nigeria and if the pillar of justice can look at an environment where there is a lot of poverty and went to give such a judgment that is capable of heating up the environment further, it is unfortunate,” the COKACS Shepherd said.
He added that if he was still young and had the capacity he would have gone into the streets with a placard to protest against the judgment of the Supreme Court.
“With the judgment of the Supreme Court, one would ask if they considered the unborn generations, the high rate of unemployment in the country the fact that only a few individuals were embezzling the resources of the people.
“This judgment is enabling such embezzlement. Instead of being a source of solution they are compounding the problems in the land. So, for me it is a vexatious judgment.”
Shepherd Jene emphasised that justice was not done in that judgment. “In any judgment, you will look at the impact it will have on the people and this kind of judgment is an indicator of a failed state.”
He however called for a civil revolution that will bring about a national referendum “so we can discuss as a people how we should be governed and properly run the country based on equity, justice and fairness as these tenets will propel growth and development.”
He said, “I sympathise with Gov Fubara but I don’t completely pity him too much because he was silently part of the system that created what is happening to him. When he was serving Nyesom Wike not knowing that he was riding on the back of a tiger and the tiger has eaten all the animals in the forest and now remembers that he Fubara too is an animal to be eaten.
“If I were him I should be thinking of grooming people for the revolution right now especially those interested in good governance all over the country”.
