A former senatorial candidate for Rivers South-East, Dr. Patience Osaroejiji, has said that the newly inaugurated Stakeholders for Democracy for Good Governance (SHDGG) will change the narratives in politics to promote integrity, transparency and good governance.
Dr. Osaroejiji, who is the Woman Leader for Rivers State and a member of the National Board of Trustees of the organization, stated this last Saturday in Port Harcourt, when the BOT and state executive committee were inaugurated.
She said the people could no longer allow people who cannot give good account of their stewardship to hold political offices. “We are going to change the narratives. That is why we are here. Our expectations are not cut short because we are people of integrity,” she said.
Among those inaugurated at the occasion were Chief Standfast Robinson as BOT Chairman and Mr. Benjamin Jiji, National Coordinator. The oaths were administered by Ms. Tommy Tracy.
The Special Guest of Honour, Ehie Bishop, said decent people must come into politics to make governance accountable to the people, saying that the era of failed promises must go.
“We want to change the narrative of grabbing, collecting and receiving. This time around, politics must be played on integrity, truthfulness and fairness so that we can hold our leaders accountable,” he said.
He called for support for the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, who he said within one year in office had demonstrated accountability and transparency.
The Chairman of the BOT, Chief Robinson, said the group was established to propagate the virtues of integrity, truth and fairness in politics, a quality he said the governor of Rivers State was already exhibiting. These qualities he said have manifested in the declared increase in the revenue profile of the state by Governor Fubara from N12 billion to NN27 billion.
