A new breed politician, Mr. Friday Owhornugwu Obodo says one of the reasons why he wants to represent the people of Emohua Constituency in the incoming Rivers Assembly is to alleviate the pain and suffering of his constituents.
Mr. Obodo spoke over the weekend in an exclusive chat with National Point at Rumuji in Emohua Local Government Area.
“Why I want to represent the people of Emohua Constituency in the up-coming 10th Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) is to reduce their suffering as well as attract development to the area. My pain is my passion. Everything that made me to come into this election is about pain”.
Mr. Obodo who is seeking for a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly under the platform of Accord, said he is also passionate about the education and the future of his people.
“I am one man that has a passion for what I do. I am passionate about the education of my people. This is because education nurtured me into what I am today. I am also passionate about agriculture”.
He expressed displeasure over the level of insecurity in Emohua LGA and the economic collapse in the area, and promised that if given the mandate, he will sponsor bills that would ensure that the state and federal government enhance the education sector in Emohua LGA.
“I believe that with proper education some of the challenges and problems we have will be overcome and insecurity will be addressed. Insecurity in our communities is as a result of the mismanagement of the resources. Most of the conflict in our communities are land matters but can be addressed as well if the educational system is functional,” he pointed out.
The former president of the Student Union Government (SUG) of East London University hinted that there are several reasons why he is seeking political office.
Said he: “Before I tell you why I am seeking political office, I want to tell you that my campaign theme or slogan is ‘Purpose before Politics’. Besides, I am seeking political office because of the people of Emohua LGA. I am also seeking political office because I believe that every political office holder should know that every office is a commitment to serve. Therefore, I want to go into the State Assembly to serve the people of Emohua Constituency.
“Again, I am not just talking to you as someone who wants to become a lawmaker, but one who is an academic. By the grace of God, I have held positions in the past so, right now, I feel it is time to represent the people of Emohua constituency in the hallowed chamber of the State Assembly,” Mr. Obodo disclosed.
On the chances of his party, Accord winning, Mr. Obodo had this to say: “I believe Accord will win Emohua Constituency. This is because the average Emohua man knows that APC and PDP have failed us. And besides, Emohua is not different from any other LGA in Rivers State that Accord will not win”.
The former Ethics and Environment officer of the University of East London stated that there is so much the 21st century lawmaker can do both directly and indirectly if he has data at his finger tips.
