Governor Siminalayi Fubara addressed the people of Rivers State in a statement urging calm, unity, and adherence to the democratic process.
“We will engage with all relevant institutions to ensure that our democracy remains strong and that Rivers State continues to thrive,” he assured.
The embattled governor reflected on the numerous challenges his administration had faced, stressing that he had always prioritized the well-being of Rivers people. He emphasized that all his actions and decisions were in line with his constitutional duties, even amid the political turmoil.
Fubara pointed fingers at members of the Rivers State House of Assembly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing them of deliberately obstructing governance and frustrating his efforts to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
“At every turn, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly frustrated our efforts, making genuine peace and progress difficult,” he lamented.
Despite the crisis, the suspended governor maintained that governance in Rivers State had not suffered, highlighting that salaries were paid and vital development projects continued.
“Good governance has continued, salaries have been paid, and great projects have been executed to move the state forward,” he added.
Furthermore, Governor Fubara has urged Rivers people to remain peaceful and law-abiding, emphasizing that the state remains “safe, secure, and peaceful under our watch.”
“At this critical time, I urge all Rivers people to remain peaceful and law-abiding. We will engage with all relevant institutions to ensure that our democracy remains strong and that Rivers State continues to thrive,” he stated.
As Rivers State enters a new phase of political uncertainty, the resilience and unity of its people will be tested like never before. The coming weeks and months will determine the fate of governance in the oil-rich state and the broader implications for Nigeria’s democratic stability.
