As political activities gather momentum ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, the Asiwaju Trumpets Support Group for Tinubu and Fubara Second Term has intensified mobilisation efforts in Rivers State with the declaration of a five-day prayer programme and a two-day fasting exercise.
The group said the initiative was aimed at seeking divine intervention for a peaceful primary election process and the successful emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC presidential candidate and Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, as the party’s governorship candidate.
According to a statement issued at the group’s Port Harcourt liaison office, the spiritual and mobilisation campaign commenced on May 17 with prayer requests sent to selected churches across the state.
The group added that between May 18 and May 21, advocacy materials, solidarity messages and outreach activities would be extended to top government officials and institutions, including the Governor, the First Lady, the Deputy Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, commissioners, permanent secretaries, support groups and media organisations.
It further disclosed that members and supporters had been directed to observe a two-day fasting programme from May 20 to May 21 as part of efforts to ensure peaceful and successful primaries.
Convener and National Coordinator of the support group, Hon. Abdul-Hameed Oladipupo Alli, popularly known as “Mr. Nigeria,” said the organisation’s six-week mobilisation campaign in Rivers State had continued to gain momentum.
“Our strategy is clear, visible and backed by spiritual resolve,” Alli said.
“Following Governor Fubara’s firm stance with the APC, our morale has never been higher. We are not just holding sensitisation campaigns; we are covering the entire governance structure of Rivers State with prayers.”
He added that the group had distributed branded campaign materials, including Kampala tops and “No Shaking” stickers, to institutions such as the Rivers State Television and the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
The support group listed its key prayer points to include peaceful and successful APC primaries, stability within government institutions and mass mobilisation of delegates and supporters.
The statement also noted that the prayer initiative was extended to accommodate special prayers and sermons by Muslim faithful during Jumat services, as well as prayers by pilgrims observing the ongoing Dhul Hijja period ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
