…recruitment of more 5,000 teachers on course
The Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB) has completed a two-day orientation programme for 1,000 new teachers, reaffirming its commitment to raising the standard of basic education in the state.
A press release issued by the Director, Corporate Communications Department of Rivers SUBEB, Mr. Justice Amadi, said the induction introduced the teachers into the policies, ethics, and pedagogical standards of the Rivers State school system.
The RSUBEB Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ogeh, said having emerged through a rigorous process, the new teachers should justify the confidence reposed in them by being diligent, disciplined, and committed to your assigned schools.
He also said the board would not accept rejection of postings and undue lobbying for transfers by the new teachers.
He also expressed appreciation to the Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for sustaining the recruitment of the 1,000 teachers and approving the recruitment of additional 5,000 teachers to close the manpower gap in schools.
Ogeh also thanked former Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for laying the foundation with the initial 1,000-teacher recruitment.
In the keynote lecture, a past chairman of the UBE Board, Dr. Fyneface Akah, said, “Teaching is a vocation of purpose. It demands love, empathy, creativity, resilience, and digital proficiency. Be agents of transformation in your classrooms.”
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Peters Nwagor, charged the teachers to “uphold professionalism, punctuality, and accountability at all times.”
Participants were trained on lesson planning, child protection, school rules and regulations, stakeholder relations, administrative services, public service rules, financial stewardship, and ethical use of digital platforms.
The teachers expressed gratitude to the Board for the employment and onboarding experience. They also pledged to uphold the highest standards of service for the transformation of basic education in Rivers State.
