By Dave Okpogadie, Asaba
The director general, Delta State Traffic Management Agency (DESTMA), Commander Azubuike Idah Rtd. has described as malicious the publication in Opera News and other online platforms that one of its officers was shot dead by gunmen in Ughelli.
Commander Idah said Opera News platform had been known for spreading fake news and its publications should be taken with a pinch of salt.
“You need to take any news from Opera with a pinch of salt. Opera is known for so many fake news”.
“As regards the subject of killing which they reported happened in Ughelli market, I want to tell you that nothing like that happened. No DESTMA officer was shot recently in Ughelli,” he stressed.
Commander Idah said the publication was meant to create sensation and cause panic and unrest in the state, and advised that it should be disregarded.
He advised journalist, especially online reporters, to be objective, factual and carry out their duties with a clean and clear conscience, instead of trying to cause unrest or malign an agency involved in sanitizing the society.
The DG lamented the lack of regulations for the online reports, adding that it would benefit them if they could use their news platform to develop the society.
