Fact: No baby died. National Point investigations indicate that the transformer which serves the University Teaching Hospital Choba, Rivers Sate, failed to work last week. However, the hospital authorities made alternative provisions for a diesel powered generator to serve mainly the emergency unit.
It is not clearly if the generator covers the maternity where the incubators are located.
The Management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has debunked reports that 14 infants died as a result of power outage in its facility.
The acting Public Relations Officer, Elabha Meni said this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Meni was reacting to reports in the social media that the incident, even as he confirmed the power outage.
