As women all over the globe marked Mother’s Day on May 14, 2023, Nigerian women raised their voices to call for better understanding and support from their spouses and the male folk generally.
At the service marking the day, essentially ministered by women in most churches, it was opportunity for women clad in colours and looking cherished to speak out condemning things they are not happy with especially within the home and these were relayed through drama sketches, dances and short talk shows.
At the Ohiamini Satelite Church, Rumuigbo of the Salvation Ministries, the women held worshippers spellbound with songs, dance and talks thanking God for another year and imploring attention as helpmates, explaining that the burden on women is too much not to require support from their partners.
To keep love going after marriage, the panel of discussants stressed that love is intimacy, bonding which is nurtured by communication.
They noted that communication missing in most marriages and advised, “As partners you need to have family time, communication between couples. Husbands should be home by eight to bond with the family, help the children with their homework and relief the wives of some duties.”
In the keynote address at the main church of the Salvation Ministries, Pastor Mrs Peace Ibiyieomie, wife of the founder and overseer, commended women for the rich activities lined up for the day.
She advised women to remain strong and not live a life dependent on man but God. “Do not make anyone your God”.
Speaking further, Mrs Ibiyieomie who said she was happy to be a woman said:
“Mothers are unique, destined for greatness, God’s tool for procreation, comfort; a blessing to humanity, mothers of all living-Eve.
Be a mother that prays, a caregiver, homebuilder, one that sacrifices to keep all going. Prayer establishes our blessings, guides you from above. Seek the Lord to deliver you in time of need”
