No fewer than five suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the police in Delta State.
A press statement by the police public relations officer (PPRO) of the State Police Command, DSP Edafe Bright, revealed that the suspects have confessed to be members of a criminal gang troubling Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
According to the PPRO, “On the 5/06/2023 at about 1740hrs operatives of Agbor Division while on anti-crime Patrol along Baleke Street, Iregua Agbor, the team sighted a motorcycle with three passengers, carrying a bag.
“On sighting the police, two of the passengers who later gave their names as Collins Anthony, ‘m’ ages 34yrs and Stephen Goddey ‘m’ aged 30yrs, both residents of Agbor Community, jumped out of the motorcycle and took to flight. The Police went after them and arrested them”.
According to the police, “During search, one (1) locally fabricated cut to size pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the duo.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects belong to a criminal syndicate terrorizing Agbor Community and its environs”.
It added that investigation is ongoing.
In a related development, on June 5, 2023 at about 1230hrs, policemen attached to Mosogar Division while on routine patrol, intercepted one Moses Musa ‘M’ aged 27yrs old, Kelvin ‘M’ and Isah ‘M’ along Mosogar/Oghara express way.
The suspects on sighting the patrol team fled into a nearby bush.
One of the suspects named Moses Musa was arrested with a locally made pistol and a live cartridge while the other two suspects escaped into the bush, the police stated.
“Suspect confessed that he is from Kogi State and that the three of them were specialized in POS robbery”, the statement added.
The suspect has been identified by a victim whose motorcycle was recently snatched at gun point along Oghara/Mosogar Bridge the police image maker explained and hinted that the suspect is in custody while investigation is ongoing.
The PPRO said the commissioner of Police (CP) Wale Abass commended the officers and men of the command for their continuous effort in curbing crime and other vices in the state and has assured residents that the tempo would be sustained.
