Thirty-four students of the College of Medicine of the Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, Edo State, have been suspended by the authorities of the university for their involvement in various kinds of examination practices.
This was contained in the university’s news bulletin dated April 14, 2025, and signed by F. O. Omoigui and Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, Deputy the Registrar (Senate) and Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR) Information and Public Relations respectively.
The bulletin said, “Management after due consideration of the reports submitted by the Mobile Disciplinary Committee (College of Medicine), has approved the penalties recommended for the offenses committed by the following students during the 2022/2023 session.”
It said the suspension of the students followed a pre-report of the Mobile Students Disciplinary Committee (College of Medicine), 2022/2023 session set up by the management.
The affected students are in the departments of Haematology, Histopathology, Medical Microbiology, Medicine, Physiology, Chemical Pathology, Medicine and Surgery, and FMLS.
It said 21 students were suspended for two semesters and 13 rusticated for four semesters, effective from the 2022/2023 academic sessions.
It stated that 20 students in the 500-level were rusticated, out of which 12 of the students were rusticated for two semesters and eight for four semesters.
The university management added that six students were exonerated from the allegations leveled against them; two were advised to be on good behavior, while one was warned.
It also added that 10 students in 400-level were rusticated, out of which four were rusticated for four semesters, six for two semesters, and two were exonerated.
The affected students, who are in 300 and 500-levels respectively, were rusticated for involvement in various examinations and malpractices during the 2022/2023 academic sessions, for between two and four semesters.
It further added that three students in 300 level were rusticated for two semesters, one for four semesters, and one was exonerated.
Amongst other things, the rusticated students were accused of brining in written materials into examination, HAE 503, found with part of the university answer booklets containing answers that were related to the examination being written, HAE 503, using written material brought outside during examination MMB 504.
They were also accused of using written materials related to the examination and impersonating another student during the 401 examinations among others.
The student that got a warning was alleged to have been found with a phone in his pocket as he went out to ease himself during the examination PTH 503.
The report also added that of the students cautioned to be of good behaviour, one of them was accused of refusing to submit his examination script when asked to do so, MMB 401, while the other was found misbehaving in the examination hall but nothing incriminating was found on him.
