A prominent cleric, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has claimed that he played a significant role in helping the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, secure victory in the 2015 and 2019 Rivers State governorship elections.
Ibiyeomie made the assertion in a statement on Monday, insisting that Wike received extensive support from different individuals during his political journey.
According to the cleric, the former Rivers State governor benefited from financial, physical and spiritual backing from various people who stood by him during the electoral contests.
“This Wike who tries to play god in the lives of people today was strongly supported by people financially, physically, spiritually and what have you,” he said.
The pastor stressed that his remarks were based on personal knowledge, maintaining that no one should dismiss or criticise his position on the matter.
He urged the FCT minister to reflect on the support he received during his rise to political prominence and to remain mindful of the role played by others in his success.
Ibiyeomie also advised Wike to adopt a more conciliatory approach in the interest of peace and progress in Rivers State.
“He should look back to all that God did for him, using men, and mellow his soul for the overall good of Rivers State,” he added.
Wike served as governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023 before being appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
