A religious leader in the country, Alhaji Muhammed Jubril Loko has appealed to the chairman of Ahoada East LGA, Chief Benjamin Israel Eke to have a change of heart and allow Muslim pupils and children in Ahoada area to wear hijab to school as well as play on the primary school field in the area.
Alhaji Jubril Loko made this appeal in an exclusive chat with National Point over the weekend.
He said: “We are appealing to the chairman of Ahoada East LGA to use his executive power to allow Muslim pupils or children and women who attend primary school and adult education classes in the LGA to wear hijab to school to learn and play with the hijab anywhere they like”.
Alhaji Loko explained that since he has been living in Ahoada LGA since 1995 Muslim wards and children as well as women have been wearing hijab before Chief Ben Eke placed a ban on hijab.
“I have been living in Ahoada LGA since 1995 and our Muslim pupils have been learning with their hijab before Chief Eke placed a ban on the hijab.”
Alhaji Jubril Loko who is the Chief Imam of Ahoada Central Mosque and also the deputy Council of ula-ma’a in Rivers attributed the ban in the LGA to the outbreak of Boko Haram in some parts of Northern Nigeria in 2009.
He expressed optimism that Chief Eke would review and rescind his decision on the ban of hijab in Ahoada LGA.
The Muslim cleric explained that the Ahoada Central Mosque has about 500 Muslim faithful who do business and also contribute their quota toward the socio-economic development of the local government council and Rivers State in general.
He urged the Muslim faithful in the area to remain law-abiding.
