According to the police, one Emeka Ogwu, 27, for was arrested for allegedly stealing an armoured cable belonging to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) while 12 other suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in cultism. The state command police public relations officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the police arrested Ogwu while on patrol along Upper Mission/Upper Lawani axis in Benin City, following a distress call. The Edo State Police Command has arrested seven suspects over alleged cultism and murder in the state. An attack was carried out by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on the evening of Tuesday May 2, 2023 in which vehicles plying the Afuze-Ihievbe Road in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State were hijacked and about 12 persons abducted.
