In what appears to be a cult related activity, a final year student resident at the Hall 3 hostel of the University of Benin was shot dead in his room by unknown gun men. The late student popularly known as ‘Mayor’ is said to be a student in the department of Public Administration and was shot at about 9pm, causing panic among students. His remains was moved into an ambulance to the mortuary at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

A man arrested for alleged kidnapping has claimed he never knew his exploits amounted to kidnapping until he was arrested and taken to police custody in Benin City, Edo State. The suspect, Joel Emazor, 31, was paraded on Tuesday, with one Philip Roberts, 30 for allegedly kidnapping one Albert Igbinomwanhia, 31 in Benin City. The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) has demanded that the Federal Government should allocate licences for oil blocks in the Gombe, Bauchi, Nasarawa and Kogi basins to people from the Niger Delta region.
