Despite being the oldest divisional headquarters in Rivers State, the indigenous people of the town have lamented that the town has been marginalised politically and have not benefited from government projects. A special court has been inaugurated in Bayelsa State for the recovery of small claims debts of up to N5 million. Speaking at the inauguration of the five-member management committee of the courts, the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Kate Abiri noted that the idea of small claims court was conceived to accord legal inclusiveness to aggrieved persons whose claims are denied space and time in the congested and expensive dispute resolution platforms. The new Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has promised that his administration would give priority to strengthening the nine state offices of the commission. Ogbuku made the promise while addressing the commission’s staff during his maiden visit to the Bayelsa State office in Yenagoa. Bayelsa Government has commenced the training of 100 girls on Technology Entrepreneurship that will enable them deploy technology to solve problems in Bayelsa. The girls were selected from Model Secondary Schools in the state and the training will last for three months. The Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF), Mrs Alice Atuwo, said at the opening ceremony of the programme in Yenagoa that the benefits of the programme were enormous.
