Rivers State Government has formally inaugurated the Family Court, 13 years after the Child Rights Act was domesticated in the state. Wife of the governor, Hon. Justice Suzette Wike, has been appointed the presiding judge of the Family Court in the state. Speaking at the inauguration, the governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, called on the judiciary to find a way of promptly disposing of cases in the court, even when prosecutors become stumbling blocks to accelerated hearings. The Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises-Niger Delta (LIFE-ND), an International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) project, has so far trained 1,033 incubatees out of the 4,250 targeted in Edo State, in various agribusinesses since the initiative came on board in 2020. The Oba of Benin, Ewuare Ogidigan II, has performed the Emobo rite in continuation of the spiritual activities marking the ongoing Igue festival. Emobo is a memorial anniversary of the defeat of ARHUANRAN, the Duke of Udo by Oba Esigie about 1504-1550 AD, after a long period of epic battle over supremacy between the duo. The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) says it has commenced activities heralding the actualisation of the Federal Government’s declared commitment to gas production due to global demand for reduction in carbon emissions. NNPC and its local partners have begun drilling operations at the giant Kolmani project in the north of Nigeria, the NOC has announced. The first phase of the project involves a 12,000-bopd refinery, gas processing unit, 300-MW power plant and 2,500-tonnes-per-day fertiliser facility. Further phases will include a downstream oil terminal. The Komani play has estimated reserves of 1 billion barrels of oil and 14.2 bcm (500 bcf) of gas. The mMinister of Environment, Mohammed H. Abdullahi has announced that the Federal Executive Council at its meeting on Wednesday approved a total of 95.9 billion naira for the remediation of simple hydrocarbon-impacted sites in Ogoni land.
