Bonny Local Government Area has taken steps to regulate commercial transport operations on the newly inaugurated Bonny – Bodo road by announcing the commencement of a comprehensive registration and profiling exercise for all commercial transport companies, unions and individual operators plying the road.
The exercise, according to a government public notice, is being carried out pursuant to the directive of the Chairman of Bonny Local Government, Hon. Abinye Pepple, and will be coordinated by the Bonny Investment Promotion Committee (BIPC), chaired by Sir Tammy Martins Brown.
The council directed all transport companies, transport unions and individual commercial transporters involved in intercity transportation along the route to present themselves for identification, documentation and registration with the BIPC.
Operators are expected to attend the exercise with their relevant and duly approved documents to enable proper profiling and registration.
The notice warned that any commercial transportation activity carried out by unregistered individuals, companies or unions along the Bonny–Bodo Road would be regarded as illegal. This, the council said, includes the operation of unauthorised motor parks and the loading or unloading of vehicles at unapproved locations.
The registration exercise is scheduled to hold from December 18 to December 27, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily, at the Bonny Investment Promotion Committee Office, located at the former Access Bank building, opposite the Bonny Local Government Secretariat on Hospital Road, Bonny.
The chairman further cautioned against impersonation and extortion, warning that any individual or group parading as the Bonny Investment Promotion Committee or engaging in illegal levies would be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.
