Delta State Government has approved a series of landmark infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, flood control, and economic development across the state.
At a meeting of the State Executive Council (EXCO) in Asaba presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the council gave the green light for the design and construction of two strategic flyover bridges in Agbor and Ughelli, alongside the execution and completion of over a dozen critical road and flood control projects spanning multiple local government areas.
The newly approved projects include: design and construction of a flyover at Uromi Junction, Agbor in Ika South LGA; and design and construction of a flyover bridge along the Ughelli/Patani (East-West) Highway at Otovwodo Junction, Ughelli in Ughelli North LGA.
Also approved were the following: Kolokolo/Tisun Road construction in Warri North LGA; rehabilitation of Bomadi/Gbaregolor Road in Bomadi LGA; completion of Bulu-Angiama Road off the Ughelli/Patani route; completion of Ituru Road, Elume in Sapele LGA; and Unoghovo Community Road completion, linking Benin Expressway to Ovade in Oghara, Ethiope West LGA.
Internal road construction contracts were approved for the College of Education, Mosogar (Phase I); Jjaghala, and Warri South-West LGA; Internal road construction in Kantu, Warri South-West LGA.
Other projects were reconstruction and asphalt overlay of Emu-Obodeti-Abbi-Abraka Road, Ndokwa West LGA; Phase II construction of access roads to Model Technical College, Obiaruku in Ukwuani LGA; flood control from Orikeze Avenue Junction through Obi, Enumah, and Uromi Roads to Orogodo River, Ika South LGA; Olikili Layout Roads completion, covering Mike Arinze Street, Ezeweani Way, Tony Bakasi Street, and others in Asaba, Oshimili South LGA; and reconstruction of Warri–Sapele Road dual carriageway, from Effurun Spare Parts Market to before Omenta Bridge, in Uvwie and Okpe LGAs.
Phase II construction of the Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala/Oko-Ogbele Road, Oshimili South LGA; construction of Okowa Crescent, off the Ughelli/Patani Expressway, Ughelli in Ughelli North LGA; and flood control works on Summit Road, covering areas such as Nwelih Street, St. Patrick’s College, and Amilimocha Stream in Oshimili South LGA.
Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to improve infrastructure, bridge rural-urban development gaps, and provide sustainable solutions to long-standing issues like flooding and poor road access.
“These projects reflect our commitment to equitable development and delivery of dividends of democracy to all parts of Delta State,” said a government spokesperson.
The projects are expected to generate employment, boost local economies, and improve living conditions for residents across the state.
