The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Eleme Local Government, Hon. Brain Gokpa, has pledged the support of the local government for the plan to upgrade the ports in Onne so that they can compete with the Lagos ports.
Hon. Gokpa gave the pledge when the top management of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) led by the Port Manager, Alhaji A.R. Hassan hosted the Chairman and members of his delegation.
The CTC Chairman said the local government would help with security, conducive environment and support for NPA’s operations. But he urged the ports authority to comply with the Nigerian local content Act in employment and youth engagement.
On his part, Hassan expressed gratitude of the authority for the cooperation and peaceful disposition of the Eleme people to the operations of the authority at Onne. He revealed plans to upgrade Onne Ports by the Federal Government to match both the efficiency and capacity of Lagos Ports.
The Chairman was joined on the trip by youth leaders and stakeholders from Eleme. The meeting signals the beginning of a collaboration between the local government and the ports authority for mutual development.
In another development, Eleme Local Government has pledged to partner with the Nigerian Legion to tackle social vices in the local government area.
The Chairman of the CTC, Chief Brain Gokpa, made the pledge when he received a delegation of legionnaires led by Christopher Ochindo at his residence.
Chief Gokpa assured the legionnaires that the council would work closely with them to ensure the safety and well-being of Eleme residents.
The Chairman of Nigerian Legion in Eleme, Mr. Christopher Ochindo, commended the council’s efforts in tackling social vices and pledged their readiness to collaborate in the fight against crime.
This partnership aims to strengthen the collective effort against social vices and promote a secure environment for all.
