The Minority Leader of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, has cautioned Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) against placing too much demands on and exploiting the members of his constituency and the people of Edo State.
Hon. Aiguobarueghian gave the caution when he hosted the executives and members of Edo South Journalists Forum also known as OtuedoN’ogbebe in his office.
The member representing Ovia North East Constituency 11, while giving account of his stewardship, recalled how he was able to attract constituency projects like schools, earth roads and electricity transformers to his constituency.
He also recalled how he enrolled 215 students for the West Africa Examination Council’s senior secondary school certificate examination in 2025 and 182 in 2026 because he believed that education was the cornerstone of development.
Hon. Aiguobarueghian criticised BEDC for compounding the prevailing epileptic power supply problem within his constituency despite his intervention dispositions in ameliorating the suffering of the people.
He recalled how he influenced the purchase of a transformer for Evbuomore community and how the efforts were thwarted by officials of the BEDC, who demanded between ₦3million and ₦4Million to supply electricity in the locality even though it was the responsibility of BEDC to supply electricity transformers for public use.
He advocated restructuring of the company to meet with the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state, arguing that the epileptic power supply had crumbled economic growth of the area.
Hon. Aiguobarueghian also commended the initiatives of the Edo South Journalists Forum for putting up a formidable mechanism to build unity among the Benin speaking people.
He said the forum was long overdue especially in view of its aims and objectives in fostering peace, love and progress which had remained its core values.
The lawmaker however cautioned against mediocrity, insisting accountability and transparency remains the hallmark towards achieving the set goals for a viable society.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chief Convener, Edosa Okunbor, told the lawmaker that the executive and members of the forum were in his office in continuation of the familiarisation visit to prominent Benin sons and daughters who are occupying exalted positions to promote the cause of the people.
He added that the forum was apolitical but pursues a course of good governance in the areas of collaboration to achieve the desired results.
