Dear sons and daughters of Rivers State, permit me to make a Clarion call today to end the bickering and bad blood in our state.
Of the 36 States in the Federation, Rivers is the only State without a governor/State Assembly. Even states where terrorists ruled by night and bandits by day they have their act together.
Despite the deplorable security concerns, no such hammer came down. Not in Borno nor Benue; not in Kaduna nor Katsina. So, why Rivers? This should provoke thought and teach us restraint in future.
All powerful people must understand power without restraint culminates in bestiality.
Have we forgotten so soon? Is it easily forgettable that Rivers State courts were once shut for one year? What’s democracy without courts or human society without a government? There’s a clear and present need to check the excesses of humans in power.
Yesterday, courts were shut. Today, the Assembly and a governor are on suspension. What of tomorrow and the day after?
Shall we live with the embarrassment of a Canadian Federal Court doing the unthinkable as they labelled Nigeria’s biggest parties (PDP/APC) as terrorist organisations.
Is this not a ploy to stop Nigeria from getting permanent membership in the UN in September? Is it not time to end the season of anomie In Port Harcourt?
I will be on my way to Abuja tomorrow to meet with a former governor of consequence to confer, because everything has a Season.
A season of peace…. progress and prosperity. All we are saying give peace a chance, John Lennon sang.
A veteran journalist, wrote from Port Harcourt.
