Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied allegations made against him by the former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, in an explosive press statement televised on Channels TV on Friday.
Nwaeke, in the scathing statement, leveled serious allegations against the governor, including one in which he said the governor orchestrated the burning of the State Assembly.
Nwaeke alleged that the governor also attempted to demolish the Assembly members’ residences, and was actively plotting to destabilize the Niger Delta through violence and sabotage of oil pipelines.
But Governor Fubara, in his response contained in a press statement, denied all the accusations, calling them “laughable” and “ludicrous.”
He refuted any involvement in the events Nwaeke described, stating that his administration was committed to peace and stability in the state.
Fubara dismissed Nwaeke’s allegations as a desperate attempt to discredit him and his administration, suggesting that he had been compromised and coerced into making false statements.
Nwaeke’s wife, Florence however said in a video clip aired by Channels that her husband had resigned after he came under pressure to implicate Governor Fubara.
She said the TV press briefing where he indicted Fubara came after he was invited to Abuja by a friend, who wanted him to come over to discuss something. The next thing she said she heard was that her husband was on TV raining charges against Fubara.
Mrs. Nwaeke said she believed the press briefing by her husband was done under undue influence.
