The head teacher of 1, 2, 3, and 4 of St. Andrew’s State Model Primary Schools Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Mrs. Chinah Leah Chika has commended the governor of Rivers State, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for the establishment of Real Madrid Football Academy in Port Harcourt.
Mrs. Chika who made this commendation during the 3rd annual Inter-House Sports of the schools, said, “We the management and staff of these schools will like to thank our gallant and amiable governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike who made sports compulsory for primary schools and have further established and developed the Rivers State Real Madrid Football Academy. In fact, these buttress the fact that we need to catch them young”
The head teacher however, lamented that the schools (School 1, 2, 3, and 4) were facing a lot of challenges.
“In the entire school we only have nine teachers. The classes are two arms. For instance, five and six are being handled by a teacher. We need trained teachers.
“If in the university they will train psychologists and health educationists, it will go a long way to assist in running primary and secondary schools across the state. Besides, St. Andrew’s State Model Primary Schools, Mile 1, Diobu need academic staff and non-academic staff. We expect that more teachers should be employed into the system to enable the smooth running of the schools.
“We also need security, cleaners and gardeners to be employed too. We need a lot from the state government,” she stated as she appealed on behalf of all to, “ the Rivers State UBE Board and the School Based Management (SBMC) to help us connect the schools to the National Grid for direct electricity.”
The head teacher said the schools have talents that need to be nurtured to greater height, stressing on the need for a balance between education and sports development among the youth and children.
“With practices and activities so far showcased by the pupils of our schools, many talents abound and if recognized and harnessed will move the state and nation as a whole to greater height in sports related activities.”
Mrs. Chika stressed the importance of sports.
She expressed displeasure that most parents do not care about what their kids do, particularly their homework, stressing on the need for support from parents.”
“Parents should bring their wards to our schools. Besides, we need the support of parents with regards to the monitoring of the children’s work at home and help in bringing them to the schools. Parents should assist teachers to further supervise the pupils’ activities daily so as to fight the menace of moral decadence such as cultism, stealing and other social vices in our society,” Mrs Chika added.
She commended the Rivers State UBE Board and the Federal Ministry of Education for the development of grassroots sports.
At the end of the competition, Ash House emerged the overall winner.
