The National Leader of the Unity House Foundation, Mr. Kingsley Wali, has said the political crisis in Rivers State is exaggerated.
Wali told National Point in an interview that what has been happening in Rivers State is political noise. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing that has happened in Port Harcourt or Rivers State that is not political, involving the politicians. And there is nothing that is happening in Rivers State now that is new. All that is happening is all politics. The day they decide to kill themselves, carry machete, carry guns is the day we reason to worry. But for now, there is nothing for Rivers people to worry about,” he said.
He said the situation in Nigeria is not different from the cases in other states or even Nigeria. “Nigeria’s case is even worse. If the economy was functioning, you probably would not have this situation. It’s hunger that is making the supporters of Sim and Wike do what they are doing. It’s hunger,” he said.
He said the top politicians have weaponised hunger by using it to drive their interests. “Some people are hungry and those who are in power who have money are using it to oppress the people by funding them to act the way they are.
“It’s hunger that is driving the crisis in the state. It’s hunger that is making people not to have conscience. It’s hunger that is making people who are supposed to be speaking for Rivers State not to speak for Rivers State. It’s all hunger,” he reiterated.
Wali said there was nothing extraordinary about the situation in Rivers State. What is required is just communication. The public communication is not managed,” he said.
He therefore urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to focus on finding a way of accommodating his enemies because he would be the biggest loser if there is no peace in the state, saying, “There is a limit to animosity. You are the governor of Rivers State. So, you should operate at that level.”
He lamented a situation where people from Rivers State run to national TV to spend money and blow out of proportion the situation in the state. “Even the TV moderators are tired. The hosts of the TV stations get embarrassed. Sometimes when you they go to the stations you watch the faces of the moderators you see how disgusted they are. These are the people who are causing problems in Rivers State; not Sim, not Wike, not Amaechi,” he said.
